Received my 9560 and first thing I did (as with any windows machine) is to do a clean install of Windows 10.
Here are step by step instructions on how to get this done. Good idea to read this through once so you know what to expect before diving in.
- Download and create a Windows installer on a USB drive with at least 8gb. You do this by going to the Windows Media Creation tool (google this process and there's a ton of info on how to do it).
There are several other drivers that need to go on this USB stick. Don't skip these.
2. The first additional driver you need is found here. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26361/Intel-Rapid-Storage-Technology-Intel-RST-RAID-Driver?v=t It's the first link on the left, a file titled 'f6flpy-x64.zip' Download it and then extract it to the USB drive.
3. Go to dell's support site for the 9560 here http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-support/product/xps-15-9560-laptop/drivers and download Drivers>Network> Qualcomm Killer Wireless 1535 Driver Put this on the USB drive.
4. Restart the 9560 and as soon as the Dell logo pops up, repeatedly hit F2 until it takes you into the Bios. Look for the Secure boot tab and disable secure boot. This allows you to boot from the USB stick. Save and exit.
5. When the computer reboots and the Dell logo comes up again, repeatedly hit F12 (not F2) and then choose the USB as the boot option. This will take you into the Windows installer. Follow the usual prompts.
6. Here is where it gets a little tricky. You will eventually be prompted to find a driver. Browse into your USB stick and locate the folder that has the unzipped folder 'f6flpy-x64.zip' and select it. It'll prompt you to install the driver and once you hit ok, it'll install it. Takes a couple minutes so don't worry.
7. Once it's done, it'll have you accept some more agreements and you'll be taken to your install location options. Delete all the partitions that Dell created to make it one big partition and install Windows to that one partition. Windows creates 3 additional partitions for you in UEFI mode so don't worry about them.
8. If for some reason, you get an error message pop up like mine did, saying it can't install to the new partition, just reboot and follow from step 5. If you don't have issues, you should be installing Windows now.
9. Follow through until windows is done installing.
10. Once you are at your desktop, you will need to install the Killer drivers which will get your wireless internet back.
11. Once this is done, go to Settings>Devices>Device Manager Go through each item on that list and update the drivers by clicking the little icon with the green arrow pointing up, which is located in the toolbar. Automatically search the web and let it install all the drivers.
That should have you updated and a barebones install.
12. Once you're up and running with all drivers installed, go back into BIOS and enable secure boot.
Some users have asked why not just do the 'Reset this computer' option within Windows and have also asked why not just uninstall the apps you don't want. Resetting Windows did nothing to wipe any of the bloatware or drivers that came with the machine. I did go the reset route first but found that it reset to Dell's factory image. Also, there were enough apps from dell which could not be uninstalled, as well as the old registry files that were left behind from uninstalling apps, which led me to choose a clean install over just uninstalling the apps. If none of these bother you, there's no point in a fresh install. The choice is yours as it was mine.
Anything that I can clarify on, feel free to ask.
